In Memory of Sheldon Kamohai
By: Kelsey
On April 14, a senior from my school passed
away by unknown causes. He was a star athlete
and in great shape, but was found unconcious in
the bathroom at his home by a friend who had come
to pick him up for school. Our principal made
the announcement over the PA that he had passed
away that morning, leaving everyone in a state of
schocked silence and grief. I didn't know him
personally, but his death and the emotions of my
classmates who did know him broke my heart. I
have a tape of Sarah McLachlan songs in my car,
and when I left school early that day, I put the
tape in and the song "Shelter" came on. The
lyrics spoke exactly what I was feeling, and made
me sob uncontrollably. Sarah's songs have always
spoken to me on some level, but never so strongly
as "Shelter" did that day. I want to thank her
for giving her talent for music and words to the
world, they have meant so much to me and millions
of others.
In memory of Sheldon Kamohai,
December 1982-April 2000.
