- Submission: An elegant portrait of Sarah. I love her unique style and the thick, whispy pen strokes. She captures all of Sarah's features, but uses the least amount of lines as possible. Amazing. I personally love this portrait, and I am sure Sarah would too! :o)

- Submission: A "Thank You" Letter to Sarah
Dear Sarah,
Words can't explain how much your music has meant to me. Thank you for performing and writing your songs. The song that meant the most to me is "I Will Remember you." That song was played at our 8th grade graduation. All of
my friends are going to a different high school. When I hear that song, I
will be able to remember my friends and how much they meant to me. When I
won't see them everyday, like usual, I can just rely on your music and that
song, and I will be able to remember their smiling faces. Remembering them
like that, will put a smile on my face. Thank you for doing that.
~ Sandra

I first heard of Sarah back in 1992 when I was reading my Prodigy Classic entertainment news. The person in the article mentioned that if you like Tori Amos, you will love Sarah McLachlan. So I decided to check out who she was. I picked up her latest release "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy". Little did I know at that time I would be buying my favorite CD of all time. I remember when I first heard Sarah's voice, it was unbelievable, one of a kind. The lyrics were amazing and to add to my amazement I found out she wrote her own songs and designed her own CD covers. As soon as I listened to Sarah's Fumbling CD I decided to buy all I could of her previous CD'S and single CD's. I bought everything!!!! I loved it all, but Fumbling was and always will be my favorite. I then asked the radio station to play her song Possession and they said "Who's Sarah Mclachlan?" I couldn't believe that she was around so long and wasn't noticed or even heard of. I then turned to the local alternative station and they played her songs when I requested them. I always checked MTV to see if they would play her video "Possession" but they wouldn't. Finally I saw it on a VH1 special on at 2 am in the morning. I spread the news and told everyone I could about Sarah, no one even heard of her back then. I truly find her an inspiration, she has helped me through so much. In 1993 my father died and soon after that I got a divorce. Her voice would sooth me and help me fall asleep late at night when I had a hard time getting rest and peace of mind. My father died of a rare inherited blood disorder called Thalassemia. I also suffer from this fatal blood disorder. My father died at the young age of 48, he was the oldest patient. Every night that I go to sleep, I fear death, and Sarah's songs have provided me an outlet. The song "Hold On" reminds me of what my father went through. How everyday we would pray that he would be okay, just to see him sleeping peaceful. He suffered for 2 weeks before he died. I turned to Sarah's music for relief. I then went to every concert I could, I even traveled to Canada. I live in Rochester, New York. Her concerts never sold out at the time and I was able to get first row tickets every time. Sarah's voice was even more incredible live!!! I was thrilled to see her and would have loved to meet her. I remember one time when I was waiting in the lobby before a concert and Ashwin Sood was in the crowd talking with people. This was long before people new who Sarah was. My friend, Mary, went with me not even knowing any of Sarah's songs or who Sarah was for that matter. After she was done listening to the concert, she bought the CD. I'm so glad that Sarah is now out there, and everyone knows who she is. She has come a long way and deserves to be in the limelight(but geesh I can't get front row tickets anymore!!!!! =) ) She's still my favorite artist to this day. At a concert last year, I was able to get the autographs of all the band members except for Sarah or Ashwin. They left earlier than the others. I hope someday in my lifetime I will be able to meet Sarah in person. I truly admire her for her for her voice, songwriting, artistic talent, for donating so much to charity and most of all helping me deal with all the hard times in my life. She also made an impression on me back in 1992,when I heard that she traveled to different countries to help out. She definitely is a positive role model. Sarah's lyrics mean so much to me. She let's us all in on what she feels about her life and the world around her. I guess that's all I want to say. I'm so glad I was able to hear Sarah back then and now. I would like to say just one more thing:
Thank you Sarah.

- Submission: Meaning of Fear
One of my favorite songs that Sarah McLachlan has written is "Fear". I
construe the song to be one about not believing in yourself and being
scared at the beginning of each new relationship, be it a friendship or a
romantic involvement. The opening lines of the song say to me that
because this person has entered your life, you wake up each morning with
a new found craving for life, that you feel so at home and at peace when
you're around this person, yet there is something that is holding you
back. I make it out to say "Yes, I would love to dive head-first into a
relationship with you but I'm so scared that I will somehow manage to
screw it up and/or get my heart broken." It's almost as if you can see
yourself falling under this person's spell so to speak and half of you
wants to say "Yes" and the other half of you doesn't know what to do
because you don't think you have anything to offer them.
Everyone is vulnerable in the start of each new relationship. You
are in essence that flower trembling on the vine. You have the potential
to bloom, but the wind, like relationships can be harsh and may prevent
you from blossoming into what you really are. I know that I personally
have feelings of being scared that I won't be everything that my
boyfriend or my friends want or need. This song describes for me that
feeling of "What if I don't live up to their expectations? What if I
give my heart innocently and it gets trampled on?"
Despite all of that, I think we could all learn a thing or two from
this song. When you fall in love, submerse yourself in it. Finding and
keeping friends that you can count on and trust 100 percent are few and
far between, but when you do find them, love them with your whole heart.
Just don't forget that you can't take on the world alone. You're going
to need some support and try not to be afraid when it comes along. When
you find yourself in a new relationship, just lay back and enjoy the ride.
